Sept. 2, 2022 on The Story: It's already been five years since a teenager playing with fireworks started a 50,000-acre wildfire in the Columbia River Gorge. There are plenty of charred remnants from that destructive blaze, but it wasn't an endpoint by any means. Areas that burned in the fire are once again teeming with life, marking a new beginning for one of the Pacific Northwest's most popular outdoor playgrounds.
