President Donald Trump delivered a message to Catholics Monday following the death of Pope Francis: "We love you all."
"We love you all. We're with you all," Trump said to reporters on the White House South Lawn during the annual Easter Egg hunt.
"They were with me during the election, as you know, very strongly. It's just an honor to have the support of the Catholics, and I feel very badly for them because they love the Pope," Trump said.
The president said he expects to have "a very good" relationship with Pope Francis' successor, whoever that may be.
Francis died Monday at the age of 88. He had been hospitalized earlier this winter for five weeks with double pneumonia and made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday.
Catholic cardinals meet on Tuesday to take the first decisions about running the Catholic Church and preparing for the election of a new pope following the death of Francis.
