Eight people were taken to a hospital and more than 80 were displaced after an explosion and fire Wednesday at a retirement community in southeast Denver.
Just after 11:30 a.m., Denver Fire reported on their social media that crews were responding to a fire at a building near Quebec Street and Smith Way, at Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Campus.
Ten people were evaluated for injuries after the incident. Two of them were cleared and eight were taken to nearby hospitals, according to a Denver Fire spokesperson. The extent of their injuries and whether they came from the fire or the explosion is not yet known.
Denver Fire confirmed that 87 people were displaced. Residents of the retirement community will not be allowed back into the building on Wednesday.
