An Adams County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot in the hand during a standoff Thursday morning in Brighton, according to authorities.
A shelter-in-place has been issued for the homes in the 20400 block of East 160th Avenue due to the standoff with a resident. That's on East 160th Avenue just east of South 50th Avenue.
Adams County SWAT and the Brighton Police Department were serving a search warrant in the area when the situation in the neighborhood turned into a standoff, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.
In an update, the sheriff's office said one deputy was shot as the SWAT team entered the residence where a suspect had barricaded themselves. The deputy was being treated for injuries to the hand, according to the sheriff's office.
According to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, deputies returned fire after the suspect, a woman, shot at them. It is unclear whether any of the deputies' rounds "were impactful," the spokesperson said.
