Description
Colorado was in a deep arctic freeze for 91 hours this past holiday weekend, but that doesn't mean the wildlife was taking a break from mischief.
On Monday, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office animal control officer responded to a coyote at an icy impasse.
At 5:37 p.m., the sheriff's office said Officer McMullen responded to a call in Conifer to rescue a coyote trapped in a wire fence. The critter was hanging like an acrobat at Cirque du Soleil (just minus the soleil and add in some snow.)
In freezing temperatures, -20°F wind chill and snow piled knee-deep, the coyote had found itself ensnared in the fence. The officer was not immune to the effects of the artic blast either: the sheriff's office said McMullen slipped and slid after getting out of his car on his rescue mission.
With a blanket to calm the distressed coyote and wire cutters in hand, the sheriff's office said McMullen freed the coyote from the fence, where it escaped with just a sore paw and a few scrapes.
