Description
An accident at a tourist gold mine in Cripple Creek that killed a man and left more than a dozen people trapped underground was the result of operator error, the Teller County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday.
The sheriff's office said the case is now closed.
The accident happened about noon Oct. 10 in the elevator that takes people 1,000 feet down the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. The tour guide, 46-year-old Patrick Weier, was killed. Thirteen tourists who were on the elevator were stuck hundreds of feet underground for about six hours before they were rescued. Four of the tourists suffered minor injuries.
