Description
A suspect was arrested late Thursday after eluding law enforcement officers during a pursuit on Interstate 70 west of Denver, according to the Idaho Springs Police Department.
Law enforcement tried to stop the driver with stop sticks and a tactical rolling roadblock, neither of which worked. The pursuit finally ended on I-70 eastbound on Floyd Hill when snowplows operated by the Colorado Department of Transportation slowed down and blocked all lanes of the interstate. The driver, unable to get around the plows, stopped and was taken into custody.
The pursuit started about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on eastbound I-70 just west of Idaho Springs, when an Idaho Springs officer noticed a black Hyundai Accent with a nonfunctioning taillight, police said.
The officer ran a check on the license plate and found that the vehicle was reported stolen from Northglenn and was connected to a robbery in Lakewood on New Year's Eve.
The Idaho Springs officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver took off. During the pursuit, the driver hit a Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office vehicle, causing minor damage, police said.
After the snowplows brought an end to the pursuit, a 27-year-old Denver man was taken into custody.
