Description
A man was shot and wounded after he exchanged gunfire with multiple Aurora officers Thanksgiving evening, the Aurora Police Department said in a release.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 900 block of South Dawson Way after several people reported hearing gunfire at an apartment complex.
The officers talked to several people at the complex who said a man had been firing a gun in the parking lot. About 20 minutes later, the officers saw a man near South Sable Boulevard and East Kentucky Drive who had a gun and matched the description of the person involved in the earlier gunfire at the apartment complex.
According to the release, the officers gave the man "multiple" commands to drop his gun but he refused and ultimately fired numerous rounds at officers.
Six officers returned fire and the man was struck at least once. No Aurora Police officers were injured.
The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive, according to the release. Charges are pending against the man whose name was not released.
The six involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave which is standard protocol.
