Description
At a center in Clearwater on Saturday, Democratic voters stepped up to a microphone one by one addressing a cardboard picture of their representative, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-Pinellas).
“I’ve called and I have emailed and heard nothing from you,’ said a woman, who added her husband was recently “illegally fired” from his job at the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Florida Democratic Party town hall was one of several happening in red districts across the state, a mobilization effort sparked after a Politico report earlier this month highlighted a directive for Republican representatives to stop holding in-person townhalls amid backlash.
“I wanted to make sure that there was an opportunity for people in communities to be heard and to be listened to. And unfortunately, Republican Congressmembers are just not coming home. They're not coming home to answer the questions to what's happening in Washington, D.C.,” Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried said.
