Description
A 50-year-old mother and Lecanto Middle School teacher was killed and her three young children were hospitalized after a dump truck crossed into their minivan's path on Wednesday.
In a news release, Florida Highway Patrol said the dump truck was heading west on West Homosassa Trail while the minivan, driven by Krystal Jackson, was headed east on the same road.
The dump truck reportedly tried to make a left turn before entering the path of the minivan. The minivan appeared to have collided with the back end of the dump truck, based on pictures taken at the scene.
Jackson died at the scene of the crash, FHP said. Meanwhile, her two teenage daughters and 12-year-old son were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash, according to the agency.
In a Facebook post, Lecanto High School announced Jackson's passing, describing her as "a beloved social studies teacher at Lecanto Middle School." Staff also mentioned that the 50-year-old served as a paraprofessional at Lecanto High School.
