Nobody is ever ready to hear the words "you have cancer."
For Nancy Hutson, she says knowing her family history of breast cancer, she made sure she remained vigilant about preventative care.
“In 2024, I found some more lumps they hadn’t seen before. They saw suspected tissue and decided to do a lumpectomy which I did that in 2024, then after that I did a short round of radiation just for preventative,” Hutson said.
But 6 months later, a follow-up appointment showed there were new lumps.
“The consensus from all surgeons I saw, was you should have a double mastectomy,” Hutson said.
She knew she had no other choice but to book the surgery. She was ready. But then she received a phone call the day before she was scheduled to head into the operating room.
