Description
Determination, dedication and debris.
As coastal communities continue to rebuild, an army of volunteers is tackling a problem that washes up with every tide.
A new generation of environmental advocates is emerging in Pinellas County, where 16-year-old Caymus Maxson is helping transform local beach cleanup efforts into a nationwide movement.
Maxson, who volunteers alongside her father Brian with the Trash Turtles organization, has been tackling debris that many wouldn't attempt to handle.
"We were out there the other day picking up tires that had washed up," Caymus said. "We were also picking up crab traps and big debris that most people can't pick up on a normal day."
Their efforts come at a crucial time, as many coastal residents still haven't returned to their homes.
