Description
Neighborhoods around Raymond James Stadium and Steinbrenner Field are buzzing with anticipation as Tampa Bay Rays fans prepare for the team’s temporary relocation.
With the Rays set to play 80 home games at Steinbrenner Field next year, local homeowners are gearing up for a potential windfall from parking fees.
Freddy Fernandez, whose property is within walking distance of Steinbrenner Field, has long profited from event parking.
“It’ll be good for parking over here,” Fernandez said.
He estimates charging $20-$30 per car for up to 30 vehicles per game.
Nelson and Margaret Ferrer, retired homeowners, have also been selling parking spots for years. “We’re hoping it helps us out,” Margaret said, noting the increased frequency of baseball games compared to football events.
With Steinbrenner Field offering just 800 parking spaces—mostly reserved for season-ticket holders—fans will likely turn to nearby neighborhoods.
Gavin Howell, who manages parking operations locally, believes residents will benefit from the steady stream of games.
“The parking right around here - they're really going to enjoy that,” he remarked.
This opportunity is short-lived, as the Rays are expected to return to St. Petersburg by 2026.
For now, locals view the team’s move as a financial “home run.”
