Description
A shooting between Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputies and a wanted man put schools on "controlled campus status" in River Ridge Thursday afternoon, the agency said in a news release.
Deputies said the man, who they did not identify by name, was being taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that there was no threat to the public.
The sheriff's office released few details about what led up to the shooting, but a news release says deputies attempted to pull the man over before they engaged in a brief chase. Wanted for federal warrants, the suspect was eventually found in River Ridge before the shooting took place.
Nearby schools were said to have only been on a brief "controlled campus status out of an abundance of caution."
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco will provide more updates later Thursday at a news conference, the agency said. 10 Tampa Bay has a crew heading to the scene and will update this story as more information becomes available.
