The Tampa Bay area may be one step closer to becoming a national leader in AI.
The University of South Florida announced plans to create the College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing in a news release Thursday.
USF is the first school in the state, and one of the first in the country, to announce such a program for its prospective students, the university said.
“Through the expertise of our faculty and our strong partnerships with the business community, the University of South Florida is strategically positioned to be a global leader in these fields,” USF president Rhea Law said in a statement.
AI research is already strong on the campus, as more than $800 million has been awarded toward research projects 200 faculty members are actively working on, according to the release.
The college is set to launch in Fall 2025.
