Description
A driver is in custody after allegedly hitting two school crossing guards with a car on Wednesday afternoon, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office reports.
Deputies say it happened at Northcliffe and Deltona boulevards in Spring Hill.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver tried to drive away after hitting the crossing guards but jumped out of the car and ran on foot when his car became disabled.
Witnesses told deputies they saw the driver, described as a man between 30 and 40 years old, run into a nearby neighborhood. He was arrested just before 4:45 p.m.
Both crossing guards were transported as trauma alerts to a nearby hospital.
The intersection has been cleared for traffic as the investigation continues.
