Description
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is accusing a 20-year-old JV basketball coach of having an inappropriate relationship with a student at Frostproof Middle-Senior High School.
Skylar Ready of Fort Meade is now facing multiple felony charges in connection to the case, a press release from the sheriff's office says.
The 17-year-old student reportedly told investigators that she and Ready dated while they were both students at the school. The teen is still a student, while Polk County Public Schools says Ready has been a coach there since the 2022-2023 season.
"After Ready began working at the school, he sent her sexually explicit messages," the sheriff's office alleged, adding that he also threatened to "kill her" if she slept with anyone else.
A statement provided by the sheriff's office from Polk County Public Schools says that Ready previously "passed a background check before serving as a community coach, and will no longer have any involvement with Polk County Schools."
