Description
A double homicide investigation is underway after a car crashed into a Lakeland home.
In a press conference Monday evening, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the crash happened after the driver of a white Mercedes-AMG was shot during a "potential drug transaction."
Based on preliminary information, deputies said the potential suspects could be seen walking up to the car before the driver was shot. The car then sped down Pirates Way before crashing into the house, hitting a 38-year-old man on a bike in the process.
The man on the bike was reportedly on his way to see family just next door. He died from his injuries. The driver was also declared dead at the scene.
Judd added that two bags of marijuana and a wad of cash were found in the Mercedes.
"I want to make it abundantly clear to those that were there, we have your picture," Judd said. "It's important that you understand you could be a suspect or you can be a witness."
The sheriff said that details on this incident are subject to change as the investigation continues.
