Description
City leaders and engineers stopped in Riviera Bay and Shore Acres on Saturday, where neighbors are still recovering from last year's hurricanes.
Bonnie Carter was first in line for the resiliency task force tour. She lives in Shore Acres and has been in an RV since November as she continues to recover from the storms.
“My head is still spinning. It just totally amazed me that there would much. I need to find out as a homeowner what I can do to help keep the water out of our house,” Carter said.
The city of St. Petersburg is partnering with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council on a resilience action plan for neighborhoods most impacted by storms.
“One of our governing principles is being in touch with the community and inclusive, and that means listening to the community,” St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch said.
One thing the city is considering is a pump station. Councilman Mike Harting said this could help with major flooding.
