Tampa Bay-area businessman Jeff Knight is stepping down from his position at Jannus Live days after officials said he was operating the boat that crashed into the Clearwater ferry. The collision left one man dead and several other people hurt.
The music venue made the announcement on social media Wednesday.
Knight, 62, is the owner of Knight Global Entertainment, LLC, which runs several St. Petersburg businesses, including Jannus Live, Pelican Pub, MacDinton's Irish Pub, Ringside Cafe, Detriot Liquor and The Landing.
"This decision was made out of respect for the victims of the recent Clearwater Ferry tragedy and to ensure that ongoing developments do not detract from the work of the talented artists, staff, and community partners who have long contributed to the success of Jannus Live," the company wrote in a statement.
The venue said it will continue normal operations under its existing management team.
