Students at the University of South Florida found a 9mm cartridge in a parking lot on campus, according to police.
The university's police department said students notified them that they found the empty cartridge in Parking Lot Nine on the Tampa campus.
To be extra careful, a K-9 unit from the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives searched the surrounding area but didn't uncover anything else.
"Based on this review, there is no reason to believe that there is any active threat to the campus," a USF spokesperson said.
University police said they remain committed to ensuring the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.
