Description
A small plane crash ignited a brush fire near Myakka Head Airport on Wednesday morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say shortly after 10 a.m., the single-engine Grumman Tiger AA5 plane, which had three people on board, began to yaw to the left during takeoff from a private airstrip and then crashed into nearby trees.
East Manatee Fire Rescue responded to what began as a 1/4-acre blaze. Crews have since been able to bring the fire under control.
Officials say one person on board was left with minor scrapes while trying to navigate through thick brush, however, no injures or emergency treatments were reported.
The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
