Description
A Multnomah County Sheriff's Office plane tracked and filmed a 22-minute chase through Southeast Portland on the evening of Jan. 29 as police pursued a stolen Kia Soul that had been spotted in a Fred Meyer parking lot. Police deployed spike strips, but the car kept going despite taking tire damage, weaving around other cars and driving on the wrong side of the road, and at one point reaching about 90 mph in a residential neighborhood.
The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Ryan Douglas Van Horn, pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle and four counts of recklessly endangering another person. On May 1, 2025, Van Horn was sentenced to two years in prison, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
