April 23 on The Story: For years, ambulance provider AMR's response times in Multnomah County failed to meet the standards set out in their contract with the county. The problem only seemed to be getting worse late last summer, resulting in paramedics regularly showing up late to 911 calls, if they were available to respond at all. But a few months after the county's emergency medical crisis came to a head, prompting county leaders and AMR to hammer out a compromise plan to address the issue, it's a different story. AMR is almost in compliance with county standards for the first time in a long time, a near-complete turnaround that seemed impossible in August.
