Two tornadoes that damaged homes and property east of the Denver metro area on Sunday were each rated EF2, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.
The tornadoes in the Bennett area and the Elkhorn neighborhood in northwest Elbert County both EF2, meaning the twisters had wind speeds of 111 to 135 mph, according to the weather service.
An EF2 rating consists of "considerable damage" with roofs torn off well-constructed homes, homes shifted off their foundations, mobile homes completely destroyed and large trees can be snapped or uprooted and cars tossed.
