The Great Barrier Reef is a jewel of Australia and is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The Reef is a vibrant, thriving ecosystem, but it remains in need of protection and preservation.
Dr. Eric Fisher, a world-renowned marine biologist and Mark Olsen, CEO of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, join our Laura Cavanaugh to share details about a global campaign that is aimed at recognizing this amazing treasure with a lifetime achievement award.
The Great Barrier Reef has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award in the United Nation’s Environment Programme’s (UNEP) highly regarded Champions of Earth environmental awards.
Historically the Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated impact in protecting the Earth and its inhabitants. The reef is vital to the environment and the creatures that live among it. It protects more than 9,000 species. And the Reef would be the first non-human to be nominated for this award.
