Description
An osprey was rescued from her nest on a tall platform after she was entangled in fishing lines on Monday.
The Raptor Center of Tampa Bay's staff worked with a TECO crew in Apollo Beach, according to a Facebook post.
Officials said a homeowner in the neighborhood left six fishing lines out and the bird got caught in them. The hook was stuck in the bird's wing with a fishing weight hanging from it.
Neighbors found her and cut the lines attached to her, thinking she couldn't fly, but she immediately flew back to her nest.
The line then got tangled in a palm tree next to the pole and in the platform holding her nest with her mate and two children.
TECO staff and a maintenance worker from the subdivision worked together to help one of the Raptor Center's volunteers get the bird. The fishing line was cut and crews lowered her down to the volunteer.
Officials said her wing was hurt, but they think she will recover.
