Description
A Southwest Airlines flight landed at Denver International Airport on May 25, 2025, after a possible lightning strike, according to the airline.
Flight 168 landed safely at DIA at about 8:36 p.m., according to Flightaware.com. The flight originated from Tampa International Airport and sustained a possible lightning strike while flying to Denver, Southwest Airlines said.
The maintenance crew took the aircraft involved out of service for inspection, the airline said.
Emergency crews at DIA responded per standard protocol, the airport said. The plane was able to make it to the gate, and no injuries were reported, according to DIA.
Mariah Torrez, who was a passenger on the flight, described flying through rough turbulence about 20 minutes from landing in Denver. She said a loud bang was heard throughout the plane, with a flash of light.
"So I was just kind of looking out the window, and all of a sudden I just see this bright light, kind of like, light up the aircraft, and kind of shook our seats a little bit, and we were like, Oh my gosh. Like, what just happened? I'm looking at my husband, and he was like, I think we just got hit by lightning. And I was like, No way. And then everybody kind of around us was, like thinking the same thing," Torrez said.
