Description
May 14 on The Story: Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek was on hand Wednesday as members of the addiction recovery community celebrated the opening of a "missing link" in Portland's treatment system. Operated by Central City Concern, the 16 x Burnside Recovery Center is meant to bridge the gap between front-line treatment and permanent housing — giving folks in recovery a place to stay for a few months, stabilize and prepare for their next steps. Not all of the facility's neighbors are thrilled, but advocates say a location like this has been sorely needed, an alternative to the all-too-familiar churn of people getting through detox only to end up right back on the streets, and back into old habits.
