June 9 on The Story: Back in 2020, Oregon voters did something unprecedented when they passed Measure 109 — legalizing the therapeutic use of psilocybin, the active chemical in "magic mushrooms." It launched a fledgling industry of passionate facilitators ready to take people through supervised sessions. Meanwhile, the science on psilocybin only seems to be cementing that it's a novel way to treat stubborn mental health conditions, with the FDA heralding it as a breakthrough treatment. Despite all that, Oregon's psilocybin therapy industry seems to be collapsing almost as quickly as it launched.
