A heavy law enforcement presence was seen Friday morning in Algiers, with activity concentrated near Newton Street. Louisiana State Police confirmed they are conducting an ongoing investigation in the area but said it is not connected to the recent inmate escape from the Orleans Justice Center. WWL Louisiana observed officers releasing three men from handcuffs at the scene. “There are no concerns for public safety,” a State Police spokesperson told WWL-TV in an email. “This is an ongoing investigation.” WWL Louisiana reporter Winston Reed reports that the NOPD, LSP, FBI, and SPCA are on scene.
