Description
For many New Orleans neighborhoods, sno-ball stands and shops around the city offer an unmistakable soundtrack to summer.
Kids of all ages, including the grown kind, queue in lines waiting for that frosty treat topped with the flavor of their choice to help beat the city's oppressive heat between spring and fall.
For some, like Donna Black, who has owned Williams' Plum Street Snowballs in Uptown since 1979, the constant grinding of the metal ice-shaving machines is as sweet as the delectable syrups generously poured over the top of the refreshing traditional treats.
“Our ears ring all day and we hear it humming at night," Black told WWL Louisiana. "It is most definitely music – both ears and pockets.”
