Description
Hurricane Lee will skirt near the Northeast US this weekend, but here on the Gulf Coast, we continue with no tropical threats.
Lee will pass west of Bermuda on Thursday before skirting near New England late Friday and Saturday. A landfall around Nova Scotia looks likely by late Saturday or Sunday, although there is a small chance the storm could make landfall along the coast of Maine.
Either way, big waves and rip currents are expected along the East Coast this week. New England could have additional impacts, including rain, wind, and storm surge, although it's too early to say exactly how bad it will get. New England has had lots of rain this summer, so even a couple of inches could cause some flooding concerns and river rises. At least later this week, Lee will be weakening, perhaps to a low-end hurricane or hybrid post-tropical system. It will also be speeding up so the roughest weather shouldn't last too long.
Hurricane Margot is in the east-central Atlantic. It is forecast to stay out at sea and eventually weaken.
Another wave near Africa has a high chance of development in the next week. We have a long time to watch it. Long-range models keep it out over the open Atlantic. The next name is Nigel.
