Description
Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says in the Monday Night Tropical Update that Hurricane Fiona is set to become first major hurricane of the season.
The second area is a tropical wave approaching the Caribbean later this week and one we might need to watch long term. It's already trying to organize more and could become a depression or storm later this week as it enters the Caribbean. The final outcome of this system is unknown as it's a long ways out and not organized. However, we have a lot of model agreement that something forms and the steering currents could allow it to move toward the Gulf into next week. Overall, it's a long ways out, we need to watch it, but we have plenty of time to watch it and it poses no immediate threat. No reason to worry right now as there are still too many unknowns. The next names are Gaston and Hermine.
