U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s new vaccine advisers met for the first time on Wednesday.
While the group met at the CDC headquarters, a group rallied outside in support of the CDC and the former ACIP members.
"This disbanding of the previous ACIP was just really reckless and I don't think it was done with any forethought," said Dr. Tony Fiore, a former CDC employee.
As the group rallied on the sidewalk with bells and drums, passing cars joined in honking.
"The theme is is to protect or reinstate ACIP as it's meant to be as a committee of experts who can work together and build consensus and not just necessarily be there to do the bidding of people in Washington who do not share the opinion that vaccines are a universal good," said Dr. Stephen Hadler, a former CDC employee.
