Citrus County deputies were able to track down and arrest a man who they say robbed a bank and took $2,000 in cash, according to a news release.
A man went to Capital City Bank in Crystal River, displayed a gun and demanded cash from the teller on Thursday morning, law enforcement said. He then left on foot, but surveillance footage captured him wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses and having long hair in a ponytail.
Deputies received numerous tips identifying the suspect as 54-year-old William Clarkson, who is also known as "Texas Billy." Detectives were informed he was staying at Scooter Haven RV Park in Inglis.
When Major Crimes Detective Bobby Bang went to the park, he found a truck with a Texas license plate, and officials said they were able to confirm Clarkson's identity, according to the release.
Deputies said a witness who confronted Clarkson helped facilitate his surrender to deputies at the Inglis Food Ranch in Levy County.
"Our team's dedication, combined with the public's quick response to our social media outreach, was key in quickly identifying and apprehending a dangerous suspect," said Major Crimes Unit Sergeant Thomas Dowling.
