Description
St. Pete's Shore Acres neighborhood is set to get $1 million in funding from the state for flood prevention efforts.
Kevin Batdorf, who lives in Shore Acres, said even on a rainy day, high tides can push water into the streets — and during storm surges, it's much worse.
“The drainage system is old. Pipes aren't big enough. It's not maintained as well as it probably should and there's never been a pumping station,” Batdorf said.
Now, the community is one step closer to getting one.
“It should effectively pull the water out of the streets and into the Bay,” Batdorf said.
He said Shore Acres is shaped like a bowl on Connecticut Avenue and Overlook Drive. That's why they're putting the pump station in the area. He believes it will bring a lot of relief to neighbors in the area.
