Violent and overall crime rates in Bloomington are down through 2024, but the need to fill open officer positions remains a challenge.
For years, Bloomington Police have struggled to hire and keep new officers on the force. Year after year, a department budgeted for 105 officers would fall more than a dozen short.
Chief Mike Diekhoff says those numbers are improving, but the need is still there.
