Description
A 77-year-old Frankfort man has been detained after allegedly hitting and killing a 16-year-old boy in Elwood and driving off Saturday night.
According to police, the teen was out running around 11:55 p.m. May 10 when he was hit near the intersection of 9th and Main streets in Elwood.
The teen was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, where he died from his injuries.
On May 12, the Madison County Coroner's Office identified the 16-year-old as Darken P. Jeske.
A witness saw the boy get hit, and the witness followed the 2017 Dodge Ram until the driver stopped in the town of Windfall, which is more than 10 miles from the scene. The 77-year-old Frankfort man behind the wheel was then detained by a Madison County sheriff's deputy, but he was not arrested.
