Plainfield Community Schools could remove "gender identity" as a protected class of students.
On April 10, the Plainfield Schools Board of Trustees will consider a change to the district's non-discrimination policy. As of April 8, the policy includes "gender identity" as a class of students protected by the policy. The proposed change would remove that.
A letter was posted on the Hendricks County Pride Facebook page, allegedly from a member of the Plainfield school board. The letter claims board members are scared the district will lose funding if it doesn't stop protecting gender diverse students. The letter highlights moves by the Trump and Braun administrations, while saying those moves face many legal challenges.
