Description
A 16-year-old Indianapolis boy is charged with murdering his father in January. Witnesses say his mother encouraged him to do it.
The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 in the 200 block of North Warman Avenue, near West Washington Street and North Tibbs Avenue on the city's near west side.
Responding officers found 37-year-old Rodney Nixon Jr. in the hallway of an apartment building with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His son, Zavyon Nixon, is charged with his murder.
According to court documents, Rodney was found dead in the hallway outside the apartment where Zavyon and his mother lived.
Rodney's mother told police she was on the phone with her son as she drove to pick him up. When she told Rodney she had arrived, she said she heard Zavyon's mother say, "you ain't going anywhere."
