Description
A 50-year-old woman is in custody for her alleged role in killing two women at a Lafayette apartment complex.
The Lafayette Police Department responded to an apartment located in the 100 block of Cochise Trail, near Interstate 65 and South Street, on a report of a possible death around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two women who were dead.
Police said detectives recovered shell casings and a small-caliber firearm at the scene. Based on the evidence, investigators don't believe this was a random act.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office identified the two victims as 34-year-old Laportia Shenett and 28-year-old Kadeisha Ross. Both women were from Lafayette and had been shot. Police said the incident happened inside Shenett’s apartment, which is on the bottom floor of the building.
