Across the country, protests are growing in response to what critics are calling a threat to scientific progress.
At the Indiana Statehouse Friday, a rally led by members of the scientific and research community urged lawmakers to take action in defense of science.
Demonstrators gathered to raise awareness about the potential consequences of federal funding cuts for medical and scientific research. Protestors voiced their concerns about the Trump administration's proposal to slash funding for vital research institutions like the National Institutes of Health. Critics are pushing against the administration’s new restrictions on funding related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"The U.S. is a scientific powerhouse, and I want to keep it that way," Kate Kloosterman, a Purdue chemistry graduate student said. "I want to do research my whole life."
