Description
In his feature film debut, director/writer/producer Kyle Hausmann-Stokes is recounting experiences from his time in the military.
"My Dead Friend Zoe" is a dark comedy about Merit, a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran (Sonequa Martin-Green) who is struggling to reconnect with her family upon returning from duty — mainly because she's taking advice from her dead best friend (Natalie Morales) whom she served with.
"(Kyle) decided that he wanted to tell a story that could save lives and give back to those that have been in the military. It's also for people who have not been in the military," said Martin-Green ("The Walking Dead," "Star Trek: Discovery"). "It's about friendship and sacrifice. It's about what happens once you come home from war. It's about the pain of that acclimation and also about forgiveness, guilt and grief. We cover some really heavy things here. You're going to cry, but you're also going to laugh."
"My Dead Friend Zoe" is now in theaters.
