Description
As the cause of the fire that burned down a historic downtown Indianapolis church remains under investigation, one of the building's former owners held a memorial event for the now-demolished structure on Saturday.
The Sanctuary on Penn, formerly known as First Lutheran Church, caught fire in the morning hours of Christmas Eve. Later that day, the city was forced to perform an emergency demolition due to "safety reasons."
On Jan. 18, J. Scott Wheeler, the former owner of the building, put on a "funeral" at Unity of Indianapolis, located at 907 N. Delaware St., not far from where the Sanctuary on Penn once stood. The event featured music and allowed guests to share their memories of the historic church building.
