Shamar Duncan, 22, is on trial for the murder of 26-year-old Corporal Simmie Poetsema, a Dutch commando who was killed in downtown Indianapolis on Aug. 27, 2022. Poetsema was a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, having served in the evacuation of Kabul, according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. He was in Indiana to train at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, near North Vernon in Jennings County.
