Description
If you're a woman who's made a resolution to prioritize your health this year, here's an opportunity you don't want to miss. A free cervical cancer screening could be the step toward taking better care of yourself.
April Miller, 39, of Sullivan, had been experiencing symptoms for months but said she had to advocate for herself to get the proper testing. After undergoing surgery, she starts chemotherapy this week and then will undergo a series of radiation treatments for cervical cancer.
“I knew something wasn’t right, and I didn’t stop until I was heard,” Miller said. “You know your body. If it feels wrong, it probably is.”
Her diagnosis came as a shock: stage 2 cervical cancer. But thanks to early detection through a routine Pap smear, April is now in recovery. According to Dr. Michael Callahan, her gynecologic oncologist, her prognosis is excellent.
