The IPS school board responded Tuesday to the proposed bill that could dissolve the school district, along with four others in Indiana.
After the new IPS school board members were sworn in, they immediately got to work addressing their first big challenge — House Bill 1136. The bill, under certain conditions, would dissolve five public school districts in Indiana, including IPS.
"We have a moment before us where we can defend public educational and uphold fundamental values that make us strong," said one board member.
The bill would turn public schools into charter schools in districts where 50% or more of the students are enrolled in charter schools. The thought made some parents emotional.
