An Indiana father is starting a 16-year prison sentence for neglecting his 6-month-old son. In September 2023, Evansville police found a baby at a home with more than 50 rat bites all over his body. NBC affiliate WFIE reports the bites permanently disfigured the boy, according to prosecutors. David Schonabaum was sentenced after a jury found him guilty of three counts of child neglect. A judge in Vanderburgh County will issue a sentencing for Angel Schonabaum on Oct. 24 after she pleaded guilty to a lesser neglect charge and two counts of neglect of a dependent. Delaina Thurman, the baby's aunt, took a plea deal and was sentenced to two years on probation.
