Description
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA -- Urban Heat Island -- With funding from NOAA and equipment and mapping analysis from CAPA, the city of Bloomington launched their heat mapping campaign. On Sunday, August 4th volunteers drove in-situ air temperature sensors and air quality sensors on the outside of the vehicles, collecting data to be used in creating a high resolution map of the urban heat island of the city. There can be a 20 degree difference between built infrastructure around downtown and rural areas just outside of town.
